London 2012 Olympics: Day Three

  1. There are twelve golds on offer today and although Great Britain are not favourites for any, they have decent shouts in several.
Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield will attempt to break China's stranglehold on the diving events in the 10m synchronised platform final at 1500 BST.
If Zoe Smith is to get onto the the podium she will have to do it from Group B of the weightlifting final. In amongst the first to go, her Group A rivals will have the advantage of knowing her best lift before they get started, but gold has been won from there before.
Great Britain's men gymnasts qualified third for the team final, a best-ever result for the sport. A repeat, or better, today would send that quintet, led by Louis Smith, into the stratosphere.
In the pool this evening Gemma Spofforth and Liam Tancock have punchers' chances of knocking out the favourites in their 100m backstroke finals.
  2. 0800:
Morning all. They are starting to happen. With world champions Spain dropping out of the men's football and France trumping both the United States and Australia in the men's 4x100m final in the pool, those blindside surprises that raise eyebrows and scatter television schedules were a feature of yesterday's action.
If Great Britain can catch that underdog mood then perhaps this time tomorrow there will soemthing to replace the zero in the gold column of the hosts' medal tally.
Welcome to Day Three of London 2012.
